The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria,Kogi State chapter are seeking collaboration with the State Ministry of Transportation as parts of efforts to complement the road transportation with water transportation.
Chairman of the Maritime Workers Union,Alhaji Abdullahi Bala In a courtesy visit to the honorable commissioner for Transport, Joseph Okwoli, said the union is fully prepared to complement government’s efforts towards ensuring that water transportation is operational in the state.
He expressed worries on the non- usage of water transport system in the state noting that, water transportation when fully operational will become a major revenue booster in Kogi state.
While sharing ideas that could complement the Ministry’s efforts,The Chairman promised that, the union will work hand in hand with the Ministry to achieve its aim.
Responding,hon. Joseph Okwoli reiterated the Ministry’s focus in the water transportation sector.
He stressed that Kogi has everything it takes to turn the water sector around,stressing that,it will boost the economy of the state especially those in the coastal line across the 9 local government areas.
He assured the Union of continuous collaboration,adding that,their ideas will be taken into consideration.
He assured that, the abandoned vessels will soon be put to use.
Okwoli however stressed on the need for aggressive sensitisation on the Ministry’s move to open the water shuttles.
He said the government is engaging in effective planning to that effect.
Recall that Okwoli had called on interested parties to collaborate with the Ministry in achieving its desired goals in the water transportation sector.
