Kogi State Government is to reintroduce the monthly sanitation exercise towards containing Lassa fever.
The Commissioner of Environment, Chief Victor Adewale Omofaiye made this known while speaking to Newsmen after a familiarization visit to Kogi State Environment Protection Board and the State Sanitation and Waste Management Board Monday in Lokoja.
Chief Omofaiye pointed out the move became imperative as the every environment must be kept clean for a healthy society.
The Commissioner noted that the Ministry is partnering with that of Health for immediate sensitization of the public on the deadly Lassa fever.
He urged the people of the state to always keep their environment clean and avoid spreading foods along the highways.
At the Kogi State Environment Protection Board, the Commissioner commended the management and staff for their being dutiful and appealed for their support.
He promised to ensure training and retraining of staff for them to perform their duty according to global best practices.
At the State Sanitation and Waste Management Board, Chief Omofaiye expressed his readiness to leave legacies that will stand the test of time in the Ministry.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. H. O Odiyo thanked Governor Yahaya Bello for given them an active Commissioner and enjoined the staff to be hardworking in the discharge of their assignments.
The General Managers of KOSEPB, Mr. Olanrewaju Gabriel and that of state Sanitation and Waste Management Board Mallam Abdulganiyu Sani expressed their readiness to work with the new Commissioner towards restoring the lost glory of the Ministry.
