Kogi State Bureau of Public Procurement has organised induction training for the newly converted Procurement Officers in the State.
The Director-General of the Bureau, Dr Stella Adejoh said the training became necessary to equip the officers with the needed tools to perform optimally in their new schedules of duties.
She pointed out that the new Direction Government under the leadership of Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello has again demonstrated commitment to ensure effective implementation of a more efficient, transparent and accountable procurement system.
She further disclosed that following it’s creation at the federal level, the procurement cadre was introduced in Kogi State in 2015; however, she noted That it was not until her appointment as the Director General in 2017 that work began on the conversion process.
Explaining the procedure in recruiting the Procurement Officers, the Director-General said expression of interest from officers started in 2017 with series of training and examination, twenty eight (28) successful officers were converted into the procurement.
She disclosed that after the undergoing induction training, the Officers would be posted to different MDAs to carry out procurement activities in the State.
She stated that though not all the MDAs would enjoy the services of the officers in the first batch, but expressed the hope that after the next exercise more MDAs would have procurement officers.
Accordingly to her, the state has fulfilled one of the conditions of disbursement link indicators of the World Bank projects, which has placed the State in a vintage position in public procurement practice in Nigeria.
