The Nigerian society of Engineers kogi state chapter has been called upon to uphold the Engineering profession in raising professional profile for sustainable development.
The Commissioner for works and Housing, Engr. Abubakar Sadiq Ohere made this call recently in lokoja while addressing The Nigerian Society of Engineers on their 2020 celebration of world Engineering day.

Engr. Ohere represented by the Permanent Secretay in the Ministry of Works and Housing, TPL. Ramatu Baba noted that the role of Engineers in infrastructural development cannot be over emphasized pointing out that, engineering profession touches all aspect of human activities. According to her without Engineers the world sustainable development objectives cannot be achieved, she added, that Energy, utility, infrastructure, facility servicing and innovation are functions of the Engineers.

She further stated that, there was need for partnership between the state government and the Nigerian Society of Engineers to facilitate the infrastructural agenda of the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello, stressing that infrastructural development is one of the thematic areas of his government agenda.
Responding , the chairman Nigerian Society of Engineers lokoja branch, Engr. Abdulsalam Sagir revealed that the 4th of march,2020 Was declared as world Engineering day for sustainable development.
He further disclosed that the declaration was a decision reached at the UNESCO and world Engineering Federation Organisation Conference in Paris, Noverber, 2019.

Also Speaking on the issue of infrastructure, Engr.Sagir maintained that, his group will liaise with policy makers that could influence the government to look into infrastructural deficit in the state.
He also said that the group is out to encourage young people especially girl child to choose careers in Engineering as such will raise the profile of Engineering and technology for quality life in kogi state.

The chairman who revealed that both Baptist High School and Government Science Secondary School Lokoja were visited for sensitization of girl child to choose Engineering profession also took the campaign to media houses in Kogi State.

He Thanked the Ministry of Works and Housing for warm reception given to them and promised to work with the Commissioner in order to actualise the dream of doing more in the State.
