Furtherance to concerted efforts of Kogi State Government at stamping out the ugly trend of cultism among students of higher learning in the state, the Commissioner for Information and Communication has led the management staff of the ministry on sensitization campaign to Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja.

Evang. Kingsley Fanwo who engaged the management of the institution on vital measures at addressing the menace of cultism among students expressed delight at the orientation and security strategy put in place by the institution which are conspicuously visible within the campus.

He particularly commended the Management’s innovation for the establishment of an entrepreneurship centre to positively engage the students and ultimately derive for them alternative source of employment in the future.

“We have seen what you have done in entrepreneurship to give sensitization and orientation against cultism and violent crimes in the institution. We are also impressed that you are not fighting cultism with arms and ammunition but by giving the students alternatives to cultism. Now students are not idle, it is either they are in class or in the entrepreneurship centre learning one trade or the other.”

Fanwo enjoined other higher citadels of learning in the state to emulate the innovation of Kogi State Polytechnic, while also expressing confidence that with the ongoing sensitization and orientation campaign against violent crimes in the state, cultism will soon have no place in tertiary institutions in Kogi State.

Earlier, the Deputy Rector of the school, Dr. Kehinde Lamidi stated the institution’s resolve to flush out cultism at all cost, adding that the effort is a collaborative one between the school management, staff and students.

He called on the state government to restore the leadership of the institution as the current dimension is worrisome.
